In the casinos of France
During the 2005-2006 season a new gambling record was established in the 193 gambling rooms located in France. The profits of these venues reached over 2,700 million euros, which means a growth of 2.16%.
However, there is still some reminiscence for the nineties that were the best times for this industry, the growth then was incredible: over 10% per year. After that glorious period, the growing of the industry has become slower and less significant.
Besides, the casino unions are fighting against a new law that would allow to automatize traditional table games such as blackjack or roulette.
Casino workers believe that said law would cost the jobs of 3,500 people. That is why they went on a strike in New Year’s Eve, one of the most important dates for the casinos and a very profitable night for them. Between 30 and 50 French casinos supported the strike.
